Therapy for College Students
On being a university student
You’ve been working so hard for so many years: SAT/ACT, extracurriculars, leadership roles, high ranking colleges. You have made it! You’ve made others proud of you! You’re in it, you continue to push forward: Student organizations and clubs, internships, GREs, MCAT, LSAT. Expectations are high, and it feels like everybody is watching you. You are exhausted, and wondering why. Long days, sleepless nights. You are anxious, questioning your path. Is this what I want? How long will it last? Though you deliver, you feel down and in doubt. You weigh your goals against the price. You compare yourself to others, and it seems like they have it easier than you, they all have it figured out. You wonder if they can see your struggle. You need help to sort it out.
If you are a graduate student, you are likely facing a unique set of pressures. You may be searching for a compass to clarify your dissertation or thesis path while rushing toward deadlines, meeting program milestones, applying for conferences, and submitting papers. You may be navigating complicated relationships with advisors and committee members while struggling with imposter syndrome and comparing yourself to fellow students. Questions about your professional identity and future career path may feel ever-present. And amidst all this, you are trying to balance relationships, family responsibilities, and the demands of graduate school, wondering whether you will make it—and what comes next if you do.
I can help you with that!
My name is Rina, and I have been helping college and graduate students who struggle with depression and anxiety as well as other concerns. I have worked at a university counseling center for 17 years and have helped hundreds of students find their confidence and purpose as they went through school. I will help you too! My approach is warm, curious, and down to earth. I am familiar with the ins and outs of higher education and can help you find solutions to challenging situations. I will help you explore your personal goals in the context of what seems to be expected of you. We will work on finding an internal compass to guide your efforts rather than having you react to others’ expectations. I can help with study skills, time management skills, and skills to reduce your anxiety and uplift your mood. I have done this successfully with many students before you, and I can help you too!
